I must be a glutton for punishment. I do not write fiction well (barely would be a good way of putting it), but here I am, once again attempting it. Last year, it was just NaNoWriMo. That was fun and the hardest writing challenge I ever attempted. As we know, I completed that challenge — albeit with a lot of help from my writer friends (and many word wars!).
Heads up…lots of writing coming
Recently the topic of NaNoWriMo came up again and I’ve said yes once again. That’s my project for November. I’ve also entered into a weekly writing challenge so that I can learn the nuances of writing good fiction. It’s actually quite cool. Someone I don’t know gives me a topic and I have a week to write it and post it here, on my blog. Let me tell you — the people in this writing challenge write quite well. It’s a bit intimidating and I hope to learn a lot from them over time. If you want to learn more, check out Indie Ink and click on the “writing challenge” link.
Another challenge that I’ve entered into is actually something that was born out of a hilarious conversation (that I was part of) on Twitter with some of my writer friends. It all started with a comment to the effect of “death by stiletto” and it rolled on from there. The end result? The group of us will be writing a short story anthology in October. I will clue you in on what we’re doing this Fall. I am honored to be included with such an established (most are published authors of many fiction genres) and talented group of people.
I will round out the year with the NaNoWriMo challenge in November. This time around, I will be prepared. I am learning dialogue writing (recurring theme last year… I sucked at this) and I will have an outline ready. I want to write a novel that I will actually edit (I haven’t looked at the novel from last year) and hopefully, allow others to read. That’s the goal anyway.
Yes, I will still be writing regular blog posts
I plan to write regular blog posts on things that happen in my life and here on the Farm. That won’t change.
I’m hoping my weekly writing challenges will entertain you and not make you run screaming into the night. I invite you to comment and offer critiques (be as nice as possible please, I’m new at this). My goal is a new style of writing when I am done.
It’s going to be a wild and crazy ride and honestly, I can’t wait.

I’m a non-fiction writer and it’s easier to just write. Fiction requires suspending belief and creating dialogue that grabs the reader. Both are difficult for the accomplished writer at times and that makes the challenge even greater for a novice like myself. I do however, like a good challenge, so I’m diving in!
